Learn By Doing

AIH’s Diploma of Acupuncture emphasizes practical, hands-on learning in all its subjects. Students start clinical training in week one to see the theory in practice. High teacher-to-student ratios mean more face time with instructors in class and clinic.

Students connect to the roots of acupuncture in ancient China and to its branches around the world today. AIH guides students to become exceptional practitioners and leaders in the field of health and wellness.

A Word

From Our Director

“Since my first term of acupuncture school, I played with ways to teach this incredible medicine that honoured its beauty, its complexity and its gift to the practice of medicine as a whole. I have been teaching acupuncture almost as long as I have been practising it. I love that students push me to be better in clinic, to be clearer in my thinking, to be more dedicated to my own development.”

– Henry Claflin, R.Ac

Testimonials for AIH Faculty

I am thrilled to have this opportunity to express my gratitude for the invaluable impact you’ve had on my journey of TCM as my teacher. What sets you apart is not just your deep knowledge but also your incredible humility. Your modesty is a rare gem that creates a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere in your classroom.

I still remember the time when you patiently explained complex TCM concepts, breaking them down into easily understandable parts. Your ability to simplify the most intricate aspects of TCM showcases your remarkable teaching.

As you embark on this exciting new chapter in your career by establishing your own institution, I have no doubt that it will become a place of inspiration and learning for many students. Your commitment to fostering a supportive and nurturing environment will undoubtedly make a positive difference in their lives, just as it did in mine.

I wish you all the success and fulfillment in this new endeavor.

Henry’s vast wealth of TCM knowledge is an invaluable resource for anyone looking to study Eastern Medicine techniques. He is able to communicate this complex information in a clear, concise and digestible manner that leaves you feeling empowered, not overwhelmed. The hallmark of a truly exceptional teacher.

It was my good fortune to be introduced to Henry by a mutual friend. He became my Tai Chi and Qi Gong instructor for a couple of years. We had our lessons outside in a park whenever possible. That was a bonus. Henry is patient, calm, compassionate and skilled. Good at adapting to changing needs and circumstances. Thoughtful about what he says and does. It is clear he is passionate about not only teaching Tai Chi and Qi Gong but also living the teachings. I would highly recommend him.

Amongst other things, Tai Chi and Qi Gong helped my with balance, strength and flexibility as well as focused breathing and general well-being. All of this was very helpful as I have significant arthritis and asthma.

I would highly recommend Henry!! After attending several acupuncture sessions for an injury, I have had both a reduction in pain and an increase in range of motion. Henry is extremely knowledgeable, he really listens to his patients and is committed to improving their health. He is kind by nature and could definitely put even a reluctant or anxious patient at ease. In the midst of a healthcare crisis here in Nova Scotia, it was refreshing to discover someone who is so innately caring and compassionate with his patients. Thank you, Henry!

I took classes taught by Henry in 2021 and 2022.  Henry is the most authentic and dedicated teacher I have had the privilege to learn from.  His depth of knowledge, commitment to teach, and passion for Traditional Chinese Medicine is clearly demonstrated through his teaching style and very being. Henry treated all students with respect and in a supportive fashion to enhance each student’s understanding of relatively complex information. Henry is a very inspiring teacher and leader. My education was definitely enhanced by taking his classes.

“The sign of a great leader is not how many followers they have, but how many leaders they create.” D. Walsh – that’s Henry.

Acupuncture Student

I had the privilege of being taught by Henry in 2021/22. If you have the opportunity to learn from him, take it! Not only is he a board certified acupuncturist, he is a passionate orator and educator, with a gentle, empathetic, and honest teaching style.

He is excellent at explaining acupuncture from both a scientific and TCM-based perspective – no small feat, as any acupuncturist trying to explain the magic of what we do can testify. I thoroughly enjoyed learning from him and absorbing all the knowledge he had to offer; his instruction on pulses and channel palpation, in particular, shaped how I practice today.

If you are looking for a high quality education from someone with extensive clinical experience as well as a background steeped in East Asian theory, who lives his practice, look no further.

Henry is a practitioner who truly embodies the medicine that he teaches and practices. His knowledge and connection to the classical teachings is deep and permeates his instruction.
Henry teaches you to go deeper, he guides you from surface level theory to a deeper conversation and connection with what your patients body is communicating, through his expertise of pulse, and palpatory skills.

It is incredibly exciting that future students will have the opportunity to study and gain their Acupuncture Diploma at the new Autumn Institute of Health with what looks to be an amazing curriculum, covering multiple styles of acupuncture and with a specific focus on teaching and preparing students to sit their Pan-Canadian exam all under Henry’s direction.

This is huge! What an amazing addition to the province of Nova Scotia to have this new school.

Dear Nova Scotians,

You do not know how fortunate you are to have Henry and Derek, Masters of Tai Chi, in your neck of the woods!

Become a member of San Tai Chi and I promise you will never look back. It’s a testament to not just how good you will feel during and after class but knowing that this is probably one of the best decisions you will have made in your lifetime.

For two glorious years, I was Derek and Henry’s student at the Rising Sun School of T’ai Chi Ch’uan in Toronto. When I first arrived at class, I was overwhelmed with work and stressed out on so many levels.

Derek and Henry redirected my focus by teaching me this beautiful, Chinese martial art form that encompasses balance, coordination and awareness through movement – and in turn, I became strong, calm, healthy and confident.

T’ai Chi Ch’uan is not just a class; it’s part of my everyday life.

Henry and Derek, I love your mission statement. It’s such a good read!

I know your students in Toronto miss you very much but we do wish you all the best with San Tai Chi in Nova Scotia.
